The Last Witch finishes sell-out tour!

Updated: Dec 4, 2018

Our PFT/Firebrand production of The Last Witch finished its successful tour to the Tron Theatre, Glasgow and Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh attracting huge critical acclaim and playing to a succession of packed houses.

" Memorable, gripping and beautifully-crafted production...conveyed in a wonderfully lucid style by an impressive ensemble" Joyce McMillan, ****The Scotsman

Acclaimed for its “stunning set” (courtesy of Firebrand designer Ken Harrison) and “faultless performances” and described as “chilling, humorous and teeming with life” in a succession of rave reviews, Rona Munro’s play is a rich poetic tale full of ambiguity and suspense brought thrillingly to life in Richard Baron’s production by Jon Beales’ haunting music, Wayne Dowdswell’s atmospheric lighting and an exceptional Scottish cast. Reimagining the true story of the alleged Witch of Dornoch, the play asks whether Janet Horne ("brilliantly played by Deirdre Davis" Joyce McMillan) practised witchcraft, or whether she was actually a free-thinking woman, ahead of her time. Passion, hypocrisy, religion and superstition create a volatile mix in a community living a couple of false steps from starvation when the law comes to town.

From the Borders-based writer of The James Plays, Iron and Bold Girls, The Last Witch ran in rep at Pitlochry Festival Theatre during its 2018 Summer Season and finished its tour at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh on 10th November 2018.
