CABN (Creative Artists Business Network) has been a vital support to Firebrand Theatre Company since we launched in 2010.  Mary Morrison is a tireless and innovative promoter of artists across all platforms in the Scottish Borders.  From 2013-14 we received CABN funding to facilitate Page to Stage workshops for local writers and actors to platform their work at Heart of Hawick under the guidance of Firebrand’s artistic directors Ellie Zeegen and Janet Coulson.  This initiative aimed to strengthen the roots of the Borders creative community and widen knowledge of the company’s work and practices.  This has led to a number of playwrights publishing and performing their own works.

Testimonials from Page to Stage funded by CABN:

‘Just a note to say how much I’ve enjoyed the Page to Stage sessions,, they’ve provided opportunities for networking and critical feedback on creative work that didn’t exist before. Thanks to both you and Janet for running them!’ Thomas Clark

I’d like to state my full support.  It has been invaluable to myself as a playwright giving a platform for feedback, discussion and support.  Furthermore the network of  writers, directors and actors that it has created give it an extra dimension.  You are able to visualize your work from various creative angles and certainly in my case develop your work for the better.  Tom Murray

I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone for your opinions and staging of the play tonight, it’s been a great help and I’m looking forward to revising the play with your feedback in mind! Ellie and Janet, the Page to Stage model works brilliantly, long may it continue! Cheers everyone, for the awesome performances, great company and helpful insights, they mean such a lot.  Sara Clark

Thanks again for last night – has been really helpful to hear how the playlets are working and get everyone’s feedback. The ‘stones’ bit was amazing. I really appreciated also that the actors were reading to open up the script and not for their own performance.  I think it’s unusual and brilliant that you’ve brought together a group like this.  Jules Horne

“Hearing other people’s work in progress being read by the actors in the group has given me more of a sense of what I could do myself. It has been a great opportunity to meet such an interesting and talented range of people from around here who are writing and performing. Going along to Page to Stage has helped encourage me to develop my involvement with Borders Youth Theatre and my ambition to write for the stage myself.”  Lewis Teckkam

“thanks for a really inspiring experience – we are fired up to keep working on our stage play. Even though most of the group are professionals and with loads of experience we still felt it was ok to be starting out with writing and developing our ideas.” Frances Teckkam

First visit to a “Page to Stage” reading last night. What a welcoming atmosphere. Such a positive and nurturing environment for new talent!’ Stephanie McCormack.
